ANANDAM SPECIAL SCHOOL – NURTURING UNIQUE POTENTIALS WITH LOVE AND CARE
Anandam Special School was inaugurated on the 8th of October by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The school is situated at Ambattur, Chennai & has a built up area of 18,810 sqft. in land measuring about 10,000 sq.ft.
The School provides free, high-quality education and therapeutic support to children with special needs such as Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Specific Learning Disabilities and other neuro-development disorders. Special School currently has 85 students are aged from 3 to 16years, for the academic year June 2024 – April 2025.
We understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, our dedicated team includes:
Special Educators – Passionate teachers trained at Annamalai University and other reputed institutions.
Counsellors – Offering emotional support and guidance to children and their families.
Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists – Assisting in physical development and motor skills.
Speech Therapists – Helping children find their voice and communicate better.
Sports Coaches and Rehabilitation Professionals – Encouraging physical activity, coordination, and social interaction.
Support Staff and Medical Practitioners – Ensuring holistic care and safety.
With a student-teacher ratio of just 5 to 6 students per teacher, we provide personalized attention to each child, ensuring they receive the care and guidance they deserve.

Special children need special care. It is with this simple premise that we started the Anandam Learning Centre (ALC) in 2018 for children with learning difficulties such as autism, dyslexia, slow learning disability, low IQ, etc.
Aimed for children whose families cannot afford specialised care, ALC was started as the 10th satellite branch of V-Excel Charitable Trust, an institution that pioneers in providing specialized education to children with learning difficulties. 47 of our students from the Anandam Tuition Centre were identified as having such learning difficulties & are currently in our Anandam Learning Centre.
Under the technical guidance of V-Excel, we provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and develop the fine and gross motor skills of children through a range of activities & remedial classes. When counselled and guided, families are better equipped in adopting techniques and skills to help their children.

At Anandam, we believe that every child is unique, every mind is beautiful, and everysoul deserves a chance to shine. Our journey into special education began when we noticed that some of the children attending our evening coaching sessions were struggling to keep up. A detailed assessment revealed that these children were battling challenges like Autism, Dyslexia, and other neuro-developmental disorders that demanded specialised attention.
This realisation inspired us to create a place where these children could learn, grow, and blossom at their own pace.
A Safe Haven for Special Children
Established three years ago, Anandam Special School provides free, high-qualityeducation and therapeutic support to 85 children with special needs, aged 3 to 16years, for the academic year June 2024 – April 2025.

Comprehensive Learning and Therapy Programs
Our specially curated curriculum and therapy sessions are designed to cater to children with:
- Down Syndrome
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Specific Learning Disabilities like Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, andDyspraxia
- Other Neuro-Developmental Disorders
Our holistic approach includes:
- Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy – For physical development andmotor skills.

- Yoga, Art, Music, and Dance – Nurturing creativity and emotional expression.
- Sports Activities – Including athletic sports, roller skating, and indoor games (carrom, chess, table tennis), and traditional mridangam instrument training.
- Hydrotherapy and Gardening – Promoting relaxation, sensory stimulation, and environmental awareness.
- Sloka Chanting – Fostering cultural connection and memory enhancement.

Our support extends beyond the classroom. We work closely with parents and the community to:
- Raise Awareness – Educating parents, families, and communities about
developmental delays and neurodiversity. - Early Intervention – Providing timely therapies and specialized educationtominimize the impact of disabilities.
- Social Empowerment – Equipping children with social skills to confidentlyengage with the world.
- Emotional Support for Families – Offering regular counselling and trainingto help parents and caregivers navigate their challenges.
Celebrating Every Milestone
In just three years, we have witnessed remarkable transformations:
- A child who once struggled to speak now recites beautifully
- A young girl who was unable to walk is now dancing gracefully on stage.
- Our students have won numerous medals in inter-school sports competitions, showcasing their talents and resilience
- They even participated in a grand parade, proudly displaying the vibrant national costumes of India during our Annual Day celebrations.
