Our History

“There is no pleasure in this or the other world equal to the joy of being helpful to those around you”

- Thirukkural

Anandam is a Charitable Trust registered in the year 1995 for the cause of serving the needy and deserving strata of the society. In the year 2003, we started Anandam, a free Home for Senior citizens, for elders who have no living children and no source of income. We began with 3 elders in a house at Lenin Nagar, Ambattur which was offered free of rent by a benevolent couple. As more deserving elders approached us for accommodation, we had taken 2 more houses on rent and the number of residents increased to 20. With requests swelling to staggering numbers and with unwavering support from well wishers, we decided to move into our own premises that could accommodate about a 100 elders.

We identified 15 grounds land with good accessibility and water availability in Kallikuppam, Ambattur and registered it in the name of the Trust. A Bhoomi Pooja was conducted in October 2004 and as a tribute to Mother Earth, a mega Rangoli and Kolam was executed on the 30th April 2005 in the land prior to starting construction. The theme of Rangoli was "FORGING AHEAD WITH ELEPHANTINE STRENGTH" and was executed by 60 lady volunteers. The 9,320 sqft. Rangoli was adjudged as the largest Rangoli in the World by The Guinness Book of Records and Limca Book of Records. Simultaneously a mega Kolam of 12800 sq.ft. was implemented with 40 lady volunteers under the theme of "LIGHTING LONELY LIVES".
